Classrooms are now offering student access to technology that some students may not get the opportunity to use outside school. In the classroom students can work in centers to use the computers and in the higher grades, students may use cell phones. Most schools now have computer labs, laptop carts, iPads, and cameras. Helping students learn how to use search engines and send well worded emails are essential skills to becoming a digital citizen.A sample schedule would be rotating students by last name through the technology centers. On Monday A-F goes to computers , G-I would use the ipads, J-N gets the cameras and O-Z would use the e-readers. Groups would rotate each day. This can be adapted to whatever technology is in the classroom.Another way to ensure technology is used in the classroom is to make it a daily center. If students travel to four centers in a 60 minute rotation, they will at least get 15 minutes of technology daily! For example: using iPads with Nearpod when the students are with the teacher for small group reinforcement. Students have the opportunity to use the technology and the teacher gets to teach her lesson confident in knowing her students are engaged.
